Questions about shipping rules
Answers to what merchants ask before and after their first rule. If yours is not here, write to support@larchline.co: we answer within 24 hours.
Before you install
Do I need a higher Shopify plan or carrier-calculated rates?
No. The rules work on every Shopify plan, Basic included, and on the rates you already have.
Does the app calculate shipping prices?
No. The prices stay the ones you set in your Shopify rates. The app decides which rates a customer sees, under which name and in what order.
Does it change my shipping settings?
No. Profiles, zones and rates stay as they are. A rule changes only what the customer sees at the shipping step.
What happens at checkout if something breaks?
The rules run inside Shopify, so your checkout does not depend on our servers. If a rule cannot be read, the customer sees your rates as they would without the app.
Does it print labels, handle returns or connect to couriers?
No. You need another app for that.
Writing a rule
How do I write the rate's name?
The way it reads in Settings, Shipping and delivery. Capital letters and extra spaces do not matter; everything else does. If several rates share a word, pick Rates whose name contains.
I filled in several conditions. When does the rule apply?
Only when all of them hold at once. An empty condition does not count, and a rule with no conditions always applies.
Does "from 50" include 50 €?
Yes. With 50 in Cart total from, the rule applies from 50 € up. With 50 in Cart total below, it applies up to 49.99 €.
Does the cart total count discounts?
No. The rule reads the total before discounts on the whole order, while Shopify's free shipping can count them. If a rule hides a paid rate from a cart total up, leave Only when the checkout offers free shipping ticked. Then, when a discount code takes free shipping away, the rule hides nothing and the customer pays no more than before.
Can I use the parcel's weight?
No. The conditions are cart total, postcode, province, country and, on Pro, product tags and customer tags. If your heavy products carry a tag, a Pro rule can look at that.
Does a customer tag rule apply to guest checkouts?
No. It applies only to a signed-in customer who has that tag.
Postcodes and remote areas
What do the Sicily, Sardinia and Small islands buttons add?
The postcodes of the two islands, and with the third button those of the small islands, the Venice lagoon, Livigno and Campione d'Italia. They are a starting point, not any courier's price list: check them against your courier's list before you ship.
Should I use a prefix or a postcode range?
A range like 90000-98999, the one the Sicily button adds, includes both ends. A prefix like 9 catches every postcode starting with 9. Neither knows the country, so a French 92100 fits both: add IT under Countries in the same rule.
Can I say "every postcode except these"?
No, there is no reversed condition. Write the ranges you want to cover.
Why does the postcode rule not apply straight away?
Until the customer types a delivery address there is no postcode to read. The rule applies from the moment the address is there.
Rate names and order
Can I put a more expensive rate first?
No. Shopify always keeps the cheapest rate at the top. You put the others in any order you like, from second place down.
I renamed a courier's rate. Why is the courier's name still in front?
For carrier-calculated rates, Shopify puts the carrier's name in front of the name you chose.
I am hiding free shipping. Does the app warn me?
Yes. If the rate's name reads like a free rate, the app points it out: at checkout the customer would pay more than before.
Plans, data and uninstalling
What is in the free plan?
Three rules, with conditions on the cart total, to hide, rename and reorder rates. Free for good, no card.
How do I pay and how do I cancel?
You pay on your Shopify bill. Starter and Pro start with a 14-day free trial. You change or cancel the plan on the app's Plan page, whenever you like.
What happens to my rules if I move to a smaller plan?
They stay saved. The ones that use something outside the new plan are turned off at checkout, and on Free so is every rule after the third. Moving back up does not switch them on again: on the Rules page press Turn on beside each one.
How do I go back to yesterday's rules?
On Pro, every change saves a copy of your rules for 30 days. On the History page press Restore, then Confirm restore.
What happens when I uninstall?
The rules leave your checkout. We delete the access key at once, and your rules and their history about 48 hours after you uninstall, when Shopify tells us the store has removed the app. If that notice does not reach us, we delete them ourselves, at the earliest 14 days after you uninstall and normally within 30 days. Only if Shopify cannot confirm to us that the app was removed do we keep them and the access key longer, until it does. Reinstall before then and you find them in the app. After that we keep only the record of Shopify's notice, with your store address, for no more than 30 days.
Guides
If something is wrong at your checkout right now
In the list of rules, press Turn off on the one that is wrong. The checkout goes back to your Shopify rates. Then write to us.
Write to us
Write to support@larchline.co in Italian or English. We answer within 24 hours. If a fix is needed, we say so and write again when it is ready.
Three things get you an answer sooner:
Your store address, the one that ends in myshopify.com.
The name of the rule, and what you expected it to do.
A screenshot of the shipping step, with the test address you used.
Data and privacy
The app stores your store address, an access key Shopify gives us, and the rules you write with their history, on servers in Belgium. It never receives your customers' names, addresses or orders: the rule reads the cart inside Shopify. From 4 November 2026 it also keeps the email address Shopify holds for your store, only to send you our notices about the app through Resend. The privacy policy says it in full.
